Sir Frederick Gibberd College Re-Opens
Posted: 14th September 2023We were thrilled to welcome the children back to Sir Frederick Gibberd College today. We were delighted to see so many happy Gibberdians on such a lovely sunny day.
The school is currently accommodated in a full suite of temporary facilities put together in just three weeks.
The temporary facilities are amazing and we are so pleased that so many people worked so hard to create them in such a short space of time. The new spaces received full sign-off this week following checks by safety experts.
Headteacher Dee Conlon said: “After many long days and much hard work, we are delighted that the school is now fully open not just for teaching but also for sport and our exciting extra-curricular programme. It is fantastic to see the children back for face-to-face learning.”
She added: “The last few weeks were, I admit, a challenge but our pupils, parents, staff and contractors have all risen to it admirably. The new facilities, although temporary, are remarkable and we are able to resume delivering our ambitious curriculum. The contractors and the teams from SFG and our sponsor BMAT Education have all done an amazing job in a short space of time. But it is what goes on inside school buildings which counts most and that is where SFG continues to excel.”
The school is welcoming applicants for Year 7 for September 2024 and will publish a new date for an Open Morning soon.
Our main buildings were vacated following technical concerns raised by the Department for Education, which has responsibility for them. The Department will be providing an update for the process of repairing or replacing them in due course.
