GCSE Results 2024

Posted: 22nd August 2024

Schools in multi academy trusts benefit from sharing resources, expertise and staff. In Harlow, our schools also share a close community.

This week, our community has been rocked by the tragic loss of one of our students.

As a BMAT school, we share the grief experienced by our colleagues, friends and families and offer our condolences to those closest to Dishone Lloyd at Mark Hall Academy.

While we celebrate the successes of our students on results day, we have Dishone in our thoughts.

Sir Frederick Gibberd College has achieved a successful first crop of GCSE results.

The school’s first Year 11 cohort returned to discover what they had achieved in the summer’s exams.

The school has seen 86 per cent of its students achieve a standard pass in English, while 71 per cent of students scored a standard pass in maths.

A total of 70 per cent of the cohort who studied Latin, a subject rarely offered in state schools which enhances academic profiles and fosters social mobility. scored top grades – Grade 9 to 7.

Those who started at the school with lower than average literacy and numeracy skills have also thrived, progressing their levels by 0.8 in English and 0.6 in maths.

Top performing students this year include –

  • Salisa, who achieved four Grade 9, four Grade 8 and one Grade 7
  • Luka, who achieved five Grade 9, one Grade 8 and three Grade 7
  • Sophie, who achieved five Grade 8 and four Grade 7
  • Connor, who achieved three Grade 8, five Grade 7 and one Grade 6
  • Abbie, who achieved one Grade 9, five Grade 8, two Grade 7 and one Grade 6

Headteacher Dee Conlon said: “I am proud of our Gibberdians’ performance.

“Given the challenging year we’ve faced, the resilience and perseverance shown by our students are commendable.

“These results reflect Sir Frederick Gibberd’s dedication to a broad and inclusive curriculum, signalling a promising start to our school’s academic standing.

“I extend my thanks to our staff at Sir Frederick Gibberd who have gone above and beyond in contributing to our young people’s success.

“Congratulations to the Class of 2024 - you’ve worked hard and truly deserve your success. Well done!”
